47 bottles of blood were collected in the Municipality of Orestiada thanks to the participation of the citizens.

With responsibility and maximum social sensitivity, the citizens of Orestiada responded to the call of the Organization "The Smile of the Child" and actively participated in the action of Voluntary Blood Donation, which took place on 22 and 23 June 2021, in the central square of the Municipality of Orestiada.

47 bottles of blood were collected, thanks to the large participation of citizens, blood donation associations and organizations of Orestiada, in order to address the unprecedented shortages that have occurred in the blood stocks of the National Health System, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The successful completion of the action was facilitated by the perfect cooperation with all the involved bodies, which substantially contributed to its implementation. We warmly thank for their valuable support the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the Municipality of Orestiada, the University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis, the Association of Volunteer Blood Donors of Evros "Agios Panteleimon the Iamatos", the Volunteer Aidolos Sylodos Aidos "Drops of Life" and the company Entomolysis.

The action took place at "ODYSSEA", the 1st Mobile Laboratory of Information, Education & Technology of the Organization "The Smile of the Child", observing all the necessary measures, to ensure its smooth and safe conduct, by the University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis.

It is also worth mentioning that during the two-day action and specifically on Wednesday 23 June 2021 a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Municipality of Orestiada and the Organization "The Smile of the Child", in order to seal the excellent cooperation so far, as well as to expand the frequency and scope of joint actions aimed at protecting children and vulnerable groups.

The action is part of the implementation of the project "INTERSYC II - Integrated Territorial Synergies for Children Health and Protection II Integrated Spatial Synergies for Health and Child Protection II" of the program "Interreg V-A Greece-Bulgaria" 2014-2020.

The "INTERSYC II" project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and by national resources of Greece and Bulgaria.
